FITNESS AND EMOTIONAL HEALTH With everything going on in the world today, especially with the whole COVID-19 virus pandemic and the market shutdown, a lot of people may be experiencing stress, lack of energy and/or feeling stuck. Exercise is an important aspect of maintaining emotional health. It improves mood and mental health along with many other benefits. Some examples are boosts energy and brainpower. Prevents and fights illnesses. Exercising also reduces stress and helps with sleep.

You know how people say when you exercise you feel good. This is because exercising promotes and releases chemicals in the brain called endorphins (feel good chemicals) that improve your mood and make you more relaxed. Working out reduces anxiety and enhances self-esteem. Exercise can be looked at as a bonus treat for your brain; exercise delivers oxygen and nutrients to your brain. This is where the brainpower boost comes into play. As you participate in a workout and oxygen is delivered to the brain it enhances your ability to concentrate better and think clearly. This will result in more energy to do things.

Now of course you want to work out consistently 3-5 times a week to get full benefits and improve your overall health. Benefits when working out consistently are stabilizing blood pressure if you had high blood pressure. Reducing the risk of diabetes, some forms of cancer, heart attack, stroke, osteoporosis and even reduces your chance of getting a cold and flu.

Exercising decreases the amount of stress hormones in your body. This results in you feeling calmer. So, for example in a time like this where we are out of work and kids are home from school this would be great!

As our crazy day comes to an end what better way to conclude with a nice good night rest to restore for the next crazy day ahead of us. Working out helps you fall asleep and improve the quality of sleep. Just don’t recommend working out right before you need to go to sleep may feel energized. Work out at least 3 hours before bedtime to ensure benefits.
