There are some risks with wearing waist trainers. According to American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, waist trainers can cause breathing problems. Waist trainers can deprive your body of oxygen by reducing lung capacity by an estimated 30%-60% when wearing the corset (waist trainer). This can also result in low energy and discomfort. More serious side effect is a buildup of fluids in the lungs and inflammation. Wearing the waist trainer (corset) for weeks on end restrict your lymphatic system. This relies on deep breathing and normal range of motion to properly remove waist products and toxins from your body.

Wearing a waist trainer can damage vital organs. A column of fat and muscle which is known as your torso is where the waist trainer is placed. This is home to your stomach, lungs, kidneys, liver and other essential organs. When you squeeze yourself into your waist trainer these organs have to adopt. Which end up being pushed into unnatural positions and may alter proper organ function. Waist trainers can also cause digestive issues. Due to the squeezing on your stomach the pressure can force acid from your stomach back up into your esophagus resulting in bad heart burn.

Although there are occasions when wearing a waist trainer or corset is safe. When it is not applied on too tight you can wear it as part of a custom or under a certain outfit. Just be mindful and make sure it is not restrictive, interfering with your breathing and of course comfortable.

Waist training is similar to a fad diet and/or fitness fads. It provides some temporary waist thinning. But all in all does not provide a safe, long term solution to weight or fat loss.

So overall waist trainers may make matters worse. The combination of normal diet and exercise are the two key things to a successful healthy way to reduce your waist size. Skip the pain, cost and side effects of a waist trainer and simply focus on a diet and exercise routine.
